Tonkin cat (Tonkinez)

The first information about the appearance of the Tonkin cat breed dates back to the late nineteenth century. She was brought to England, introducing a chocolate-colored Siamese cat. But the color of the eastern beauty was very different from the Siamese.

History of occurrence

The fur was brown, but the eyes were bluish-green or yellow. During the breeding program, the breeders fixed and exaggerated an animal of the type "WongMau", which became the progenitor of a Burmese cat. Also in this program used Siamese cats. The breeding resulted in kittens of a darker color than WongMau and other unusual babies.

Tonkintsy were an intermediate link between Siamese and Burmese cats.

These kids were point color (uniform light color). Light blue eyes had a greenish tint. It was they who became the first kittens of tonkinesis.

But for a long time they were considered only hybrids, and it was not possible to register them. No one ever hid that the Tonkin cat was obtained by hybridization, but now it already has its own standard and a completely official status.

True, she achieved recognition only among American breeders. Experts from European countries still have not been able to solve the problem associated with the status of this breed. In general, the description of the Tonkin cat consists of a complex of traits that have passed to it from the Burmese and Siamese.

General characteristics

What do cats of this breed look like?

Usually they are green-blue. Small ears set wide apart.

In the process of hybridization, breeders and breeders received a magnificent gift: the character of the Tonkin cat turned out to be incredibly affectionate and gentle. The Tonkin cat will fit perfectly into the picture of a friendly family, where there are children and animals. It adapts seamlessly to any environment. Even if the owner is absent all day, she does not yearn at all, but finds herself an occupation herself. Throughout life, tonkinesis retains a love of active behavior and outdoor games. Caring for a Tonkin cat is practically no different from caring for any other purebred or purebred cat.

She practically does not fade, but if you still notice a certain drop of wool behind her, then most likely your cat is sick and needs to be shown to a doctor. The hair should not be combed out, namely combed with a brush or a special mitt to increase blood flow. This will contribute to a better coat condition.

As for bathing, here many owners prefer not to bathe the cat at all, since the wool ceases to shine from bathing. You can say for sure that you need to bathe tonkinesis, but as natural pollution occurs. The Tonkin cat quickly and easily copes with such a task as mastering the tray. Since among her positive traits there is good learning ability, she can easily remember where her place is. The furniture in the house can retain its original appearance if the owners have enough perseverance to accustom tonkinesis to the scratching post.

If a person has a desire and a full range of necessary vaccinations for a cat, it can be walked, but only on a leash. But you can walk only in the warm season, since they can’t stand the cold weather at all. Be sure to regularly inspect the ears, eyes and teeth. If necessary, clean or wipe.

The diet of Tonkin cats is also no different from the diets of others. Dry food, as a rule, contains a sufficient amount of minerals and vitamins. Naturally, natural products are much more beneficial in this regard. Therefore, you can combine these two types. Adult tonkinesis should be eaten twice a day.
